Francavilla al Mare is a peaceful and relaxing oasis on the coast of Abruzzo, in front of a beautiful sea, awarded with Blue Flag, and fine sand where spending quiet and funny holidays, among comforts and services of the Hotel San Marco.
Born in the Lombard period, the town immediately exploits its position on the sea to start a thriving business based on the port, which is still one of the landmarks for the local economy.
Despite the destruction during the world wars, the inner city preserves some medieval towers, as Silver Tower, Masci Tower, Ciarrapico Tower; there are also many religious buildings as Holy Mary Church, adorned by Pietro Cascella.
Over the years Francavilla al Mare became a very lively cultural centre, especially thanks to a young painter, Francesco Paolo Michetti, who creates an artistic and literary circle with D’Annunzio, Basilio Cascella, Edoardo Scarfoglio, Matilde Serao, inside an old convent, named Michetti Convent.
Nowadays Francavilla is one of the most active seaside resort, perfect for families and groups, which staying here can discover beauties of Abruzzo.
